The National Assembly has received a proposed constitutional amendment from the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), which calls for a total ban on the nomination of dual-national judges to the higher courts.
Lawmaker Noor Alam Khan of the JUI-F has filed a Constitutional (Amendment) Bill, 2024, to the NA Secretariat. The bill aims to change Articles 177, 193, and 208 of the Constitution in order to completely block the appointment of judges of foreign nationalities.
A dual-national person is not eligible to be appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court (SC) or the High Court (HC), according to the draft bill.
It also aimed to obstruct the nomination of foreign nationals as employees and officers of the judiciary.
