Authorities believe Nancy Guthrie was abducted
Arizona investigators are searching for Nancy Guthrie, mother of TODAY co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, after authorities said she may have been taken from her home against her will. According to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, her house is considered a “crime scene.” Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen Saturday night outside Tucson.
“She was possibly taken in the middle of the night, and this could involve kidnapping or abduction,” Nanos said. Furthermore, he added that she needs daily medication and has limited mobility.
However, Guthrie has no cognitive issues. Nanos described her as “of sound mind” and “sharp as a tack.”
Investigation details and community efforts
Authorities suspect Nancy Guthrie may have been harmed during the incident, though the exact details remain unclear. Later, Nanos said he may have “misspoke” regarding the extent of her injuries. Meanwhile, investigators are reviewing security footage from the home, and neighbors are urged to check their Ring cameras.
Additionally, the public is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 520-351-4900 if they have any information. Guthrie is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. The FBI is also involved in the investigation.
Moreover, the nonprofit 88-Crime has offered a reward of up to $2,500 for tips leading to the arrest of anyone involved in her disappearance.
