Michael David McKee, 39, the ex-husband of Monique Tepe, will appear in an Illinois courtroom Monday for extradition proceedings. After authorities linked him to the deaths, McKee was arrested in connection with the shooting of Spencer Tepe, 37, and Monique Tepe, 39, in their Columbus, Ohio, home on December 30.
Extradition Hearing Set
McKee, who faces upgraded premeditated aggravated murder charges in Ohio, was booked at the Winnebago County Jail in Illinois. Previously, Monique filed for divorce in 2017, after marrying McKee in 2015. Since then, he has lived in Virginia, Nevada, and Illinois, where he recently worked as a vascular surgeon near Rockford.
Evidence Ties McKee to the Crime
Investigators tracked McKee using surveillance footage and vehicle records. For instance, a car registered to him arrived in the Tepes’ neighborhood shortly before the murders and left shortly afterward. Additionally, video shows a person in dark clothing walking near the house early on December 30.
Tragic Discovery of the Couple
A friend checked on the Tepes and called 911 after seeing a body inside. Ultimately, Spencer and Monique were killed just one month before their fifth wedding anniversary. According to family members, the deaths were shocking and heartbreaking.
Next Steps
McKee is scheduled to appear in Winnebago County court at 1:30 p.m. Monday for the start of extradition proceedings. Following the hearing, officials plan to send him to Ohio to face charges.
