RAWALPINDI: The opposition alliance, Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Ayeen Pakistan (TTAP), has strongly opposed the 26th and 27th Constitutional Amendments, labeling them as violations of Pakistan’s fundamental constitutional framework. The alliance is demanding a full restoration of the Constitution to its original form.
In a session chaired by TTAP head Mahmood Khan Achakzai in Rawalpindi on Friday, leaders criticized the federal government for pushing amendments that, they argue, weaken the core structure of the Constitution.
The recently passed 27th Amendment, which reshapes Pakistan’s judicial and military structures, sparked protests across the opposition. TTAP vowed to launch a nationwide movement against these changes. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has also pledged to reverse the amendments once back in power.
The alliance expressed full support for the resignations of Supreme Court justices Mansoor Ali Shah and Athar Minallah, viewing them as principled resistance to the changes. TTAP also backed the Aman Jirga declaration by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, aimed at maintaining law and order.
Planned Protests:
- National Assembly to Supreme Court march on Monday.
- Punjab lawmakers to walk to Lahore High Court.
- KP Assembly to present a resolution opposing the amendment.
- Nationwide “Black Day” next Friday to protest the amendments.
TTAP also demanded the immediate release of PTI founder Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and other political prisoners.
