In a significant diplomatic move, Pakistan and Afghanistan have mutually decided to extend their temporary 48-hour ceasefire as preparations continue for peace discussions in Doha, Qatar. The extension comes amid escalating border tensions and hopes for a negotiated resolution to weeks of violent clashes.
According to sources quoted by Reuters, a Pakistani delegation has already reached Doha, while the Afghan team is expected to arrive on Saturday to participate in the dialogue. However, some security officials in Pakistan have dismissed reports of their delegation’s current presence in Doha, calling them “baseless” and clarifying that the team is scheduled to depart Saturday morning.
The temporary truce, initially agreed upon earlier this week at Kabul’s request, has halted days of cross-border shelling and heavy combat that resulted in dozens of fatalities and left hundreds injured on both sides.
