President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have vowed decisive and unrelenting action against foreign-backed terrorism following a deadly suicide attack in Islamabad that claimed 12 lives.
The meetings at the President House also reviewed the country’s security and political landscape. Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and several federal ministers, including Mohsin Naqvi, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, and Azam Nazeer Tarar, were present.
Meanwhile, in South Waziristan, security forces launched a major operation after militants attacked Cadet College Wana with a vehicle-borne explosive. Two attackers were killed, while three others remain under pursuit. Authorities affirmed that operations will continue until all militants are neutralized.
DefenseDefence Minister Khawaja Asif condemned the Afghan Taliban for allowing cross-border attacks into Pakistan, warning that the nation is effectively “in a state of war.” He stressed that Pakistan will not tolerate terrorism, whether in border regions or urban centers, and cast doubt on resuming dialogue with the Kabul regime.
Pakistan has seen a resurgence of terrorism, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in 2021, with cross-border attacks claiming civilian and military lives.
