ISLAMABAD — In a significant move in the Sangjani rally case, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday ordered the blocking of passports of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Omar Ayub and Zartaj Gul. The court also issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for PTI’s Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram.
ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra directed authorities to submit a compliance report once the passports were blocked and adjourned the hearing until December 3.
This latest development adds to the mounting legal challenges for PTI, whose founder Imran Khan, along with senior leaders like Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Yasmin Rashid, remains behind bars over alleged involvement in various incidents, including the May 9 riots.
The case stems from PTI’s September 2024 power show demanding the release of Khan from Rawalpindi Adiala Jail. The same court had previously issued arrest warrants for Ayub, Gul, and Akram after they repeatedly failed to appear in court.
Separate IHC Notice on Imran Khan Meeting
Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued notices to the Home Secretary, Adiala Jail superintendent, and other officials in response to a contempt of court plea filed by PTI’s Salman Akram Raja. The plea highlighted authorities’ failure to facilitate a meeting between Raja and Imran Khan.
During the hearing, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir questioned why the meeting hadn’t occurred despite previous court orders. The court then issued notices to the relevant parties and adjourned the case.
