KARACHI: On Sunday, citizens gathered outside Abul Hasan Ispahani Road to protest what they said were unlawful police detentions, causing traffic on the Super Highway to come to a complete halt.
Lawmaker Mohammad Iqbal Mehsud of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) joined the irate throng and demanded the immediate release of individuals who had purportedly been detained.
Traffic police had to reroute cars from Punjab Adda towards Faria Chowk since the protest blocked one of the main thoroughfares in the city.
Police promised the public that any officer discovered to have engaged in illegal activity would be held accountable.
Following heated negotiations, the protesters decided to leave, and traffic eventually stabilized.
