Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), declared on Tuesday that his party has finally selected Sher Afzal Marwat to fill the position of the influential Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman, putting an end to internal strife within the ranks of the erstwhile ruling party.
The PTI chairman declared, “All disputes are over [now] as the party has picked the name of Marwat for the slot,” during an interview with reporters in Rawalpindi.
Omar Ayub Khan, the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and the Secretary General of the PTI, stated last week that Marwat ought to lead PAC since the party’s founder had nominated him.
The Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC)’s Hamid Khan and Hamid Raza previously made waves in the media when they were nominated for the top position in the PAC.
Senior party leader Latif Khosa had earlier said that PTI had chosen to name senior politician Hamid Khan as the PAC chairman in what was perceived as a stunning move.
Declaring unequivocally that the PTI had neither established a committee nor engaged in talks with the military establishment, Gohar refuted rumors in the media that the party had done so.
Media sources state that in order to have talks with the military establishment, the PTI assembled a three-person committee that included Shibli Faraz, Omar Ayub, and KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
