MOSCOW: A day after Kyiv’s allies declared they had promised a troop presence in the case of a peace agreement, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a warning on Friday that any Western forces sent to Ukraine would be a “legitimate” target for Moscow’s army.
On Thursday, two dozen nations, led by France and Britain, promised to join a “reassurance” group that would patrol any pact on land, at sea, and in the air.
“If some troops appear there, especially now during the fighting, we proceed from the premise that they will be legitimate targets,” Putin stated addressing an economic forum in Vladivostok, a city in the far east.
