An change to Article 74 of the Kingdom’s traffic laws that imposes harsher penalties for infractions that endanger public safety has been accepted by the Saudi Council of Ministers.
Akhbar 24 reports that during a recent session, the cabinet unanimously approved the changes, which stipulate that those who commit significant traffic breaches could be imprisoned for up to a year.
Such infractions could lead to expatriates being deported and placed on a Kingdom blacklist. After a final court decision, the modified statute gives the Ministry of Interior the authority to remove any foreign national found guilty of a traffic infraction that jeopardizes public safety.
Offenders will also be prohibited from visiting Saudi Arabia again for good.
