KARACHI: In honor of Sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai’s urs on August 20, Tuesday, the Sindh government has declared a public holiday throughout the province.
A government statement states that on August 20, the day of 14th Safar, all offices, educational institutions, companies, autonomous and semi-autonomous entities, and local councils under the jurisdiction of the Sindh government will be closed.
Essential services, on the other hand, will not be subject to the notice and will continue to operate across the province.
Every year, the three-day event known as the Urs starts on the 14th of Safar, which is the second month in the Hijra calendar. According to sources, poetry marathons, literature conferences, and other events will kick off the three-day urs ritual.
