The incident took place in December and led to major loss of life. Authorities already charged the suspect with 59 offences. These include 15 counts of murder, 40 counts of attempted murder, and one charge linked to a terrorist act. Court documents show that prosecutors added new charges in April, but officials only recently confirmed them publicly. Details of the Fresh Allegations The new allegations include 10 counts of shooting with intent to murder. They also include 6 counts of firing a weapon to resist arrest. In addition, there are 3 counts of causing serious injury with intent to kill. Prosecutors say investigators from a joint counter terrorism team continue to work through a large volume of evidence. They are reviewing about 230,000 CCTV images and data taken from several electronic devices linked to people connected with the suspect. Court Updates and Legal Position The accused, a 24 year old man, has appeared in court several times. He has not entered a plea yet. His next court appearance is scheduled for August. His lawyer said the additional charges did not surprise the defence team. She added that large cases like this often expand as investigations continue. She also stated that the legal team is preparing for a long process due to the scale of the evidence. Evidence Under Review Investigators continue to examine videos, communications, and translated material from seized devices. Prosecutors said the case involves complex digital evidence that requires detailed analysis. They believe the planning of the attack took place over several months. Investigators also say the suspects carried out reconnaissance before the incident. A video reportedly shows the accused and his father sitting in front of a flag linked to Islamic State group. Authorities say the video contains statements about their motives and references to political and religious tensions. The father of the accused was killed during the incident when police responded at the scene in Sydney.
