The UAE has announced extended holidays for National Day 2025, offering private sector employees a four-day weekend, while students in Sharjah will enjoy a five-day break.
Under the country’s new public holiday policy, implemented earlier this year, certain holidays can now be shifted to the start or end of the week if they fall midweek.
Private Sector Holiday Schedule
Private sector employees will have December 1 (Monday) and December 2 (Tuesday) as paid holidays. Combined with the weekend, this provides workers with a long four-day break.
Sharjah Students’ Extended Break
Students in Sharjah, where the official weekend runs Friday to Sunday, will get a five-day holiday coinciding with the UAE National Day celebrations, now officially referred to as Eid Al Etihad.
Cabinet Resolution on Holiday Adjustment
A Cabinet resolution effective January 1, 2025, allows public holidays to be moved when they fall midweek. While Eid Al Etihad was originally scheduled for December 2 and 3, this year it has been shifted to December 1 and 2.
The UAE continues to uphold a unified holiday system, ensuring fairness across both public and private sectors with equal annual holiday allowances.
