BEIJING: As defense technology improves at a dizzying rate, the head of a US congressional delegation to China cautioned Tuesday about the “risk of a misunderstanding” between the two nations’ forces.
The top Democrat on Washington’s Armed Services Committee, Adam Smith, told reporters in Beijing that China should discuss its military more with other nations “for basic de-confliction.”
He said, “We’ve seen this with our ships, our planes, their ships, their planes coming entirely too close to one another,” during a press conference held at the US Embassy.
“We need to have a better conversation about de-conflicting those things.”
Democrats Ro Khanna and Chrissy Houlahan, who are both members of the same Armed Services Committee, are part of the four-person delegation.
