KARACHI: Due to an extension of the European Aviation Safety Agency’s (EASA) prohibition on the national carrier, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) would have to wait even longer to start operating again in European nations.
News has been informed by sources that the EU Commission’s criticism of the Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA) inaction is the reason behind EASA’s decision to postpone the removal of the suspension.
The commission has urged Islamabad to hire officers with professional skills in civil aviation in response to the report that Pakistani officials presented on May 31.
Sources have cautioned that the non-resumption of flights to European countries could have detrimental effects as the investigation revealed that the four-year suspension was issued because of the CAA’s lack of seriousness.
This development follows last month’s News story, which was informed by sources, that the decision had really been forwarded to the European Air Safety Committee for approval by the EC and EASA.
Speaking to Geo News, CAA officials, however, referred to the removal of Pakistan and the PIA from the safety list at the May 31 conference as a “positive development,” emphasizing that the airlines of the nations on the list are prohibited from flying into Europe.
