The BBC stated that cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has expressed alarm over a deepfake video that is making the rounds on the internet and purports to show him supporting an online gambling app in order to make quick money.
Tendulkar expressed his dismay on X (previously Twitter) and called attention to the disturbing exploitation of technology by denouncing the misleading film.
Tendulkar can be seen in the video making up compliments about the gaming software and saying that his daughter uses it a lot. The legendary cricket player responded to the situation by highlighting the problem of bogus information and the urgency with which social media companies must deal with it.
“These are not real videos. Tendulkar said, “It is alarming to see widespread technological misuse,” adding his name to the increasing list of Indian celebrities who have been duped by deepfake films. Rashmika Mandanna, an actress, had previously warned people to exercise caution when disseminating deepfake content after a doctored video of her went viral.
Tendulkar called for quick action to stop the spread of false information and deepfakes, highlighting the significance of social media sites being watchful and attentive to user complaints. The cricket player, a well-known person who represents a number of brands, emphasized the importance of taking preventative measures to protect online integrity.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar, India’s junior minister for information technology, addressed Tendulkar’s worries by pointing out the dangers posed by deepfakes and artificial intelligence-driven disinformation.
In line with the nation’s current IT policies, Chandrasekhar said that India is planning to enact strict measures to guarantee the prompt removal of deepfake videos by social media sites.
These regulations require social media companies to stop users from spreading false information. According to Indian law, noncompliance may result in legal action. Both Chandrasekhar and Ashwini Vaishnaw, the federal IT minister, have expressed worries in the past about the effects of deepfakes and their intentions to put in place a comprehensive plan to counter this growing threat.
