The very sensitive test searches for indications that malignant cells persist following therapy. It can identify minuscule amounts of cells that subsequent scans might not be able to detect.
As per the study’s authors from London’s Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), patients can receive treatment “without waiting for incurable, advanced disease to develop and show up on a scan” if they are diagnosed early.
Knowing when to look for symptoms of a recurrence of breast cancer is essential to giving patients the best chance of recovery since the disease is much easier to treat before it spreads to other parts of the body.
Although there are already blood tests for cancer, researchers claim that this one can identify a larger variety of malignant cells earlier than existing blood tests.
This is due to the fact that it searches the entire genome of cancer rather than concentrating just on the regions of cancer cells that are directly linked to diseases.
“A more sensitive test is very important for this group of early breast cancer patients as they tend to have a very low amount of cancer DNA in their blood,” IRC researcher Dr. Isaac Garcia-Murillas, the report’s author, stated.
