On Monday, a specially chartered airplane carrying 56 Pakistani prisoners—51 men and 5 women—arrived back in Pakistan from Sri Lanka.
During meetings with the Sri Lankan High Commissioner, Admiral (r) Ravindra Chandrasiri Wijegunaratne, in May and again in July, Pakistan and Sri Lanka had decided to make it easier for prisoners who had been detained in Sri Lankan jails for a number of years to return.
The Naqvi and Minister of Privatization Abdul Aleem Khan, who paid for all return-related costs for the prisoners, were thanked by the returning inmates for their efforts.
“Thank you for bringing us back to Pakistan,” remarked an elderly woman. Your generosity will always be remembered.
