Serious fall after keynote speech
British actor and writer Stephen Fry has filed a legal claim after a serious accident at a tech event in London. The incident took place at the CogX Festival, held at the The O2 Arena in September 2023.
Fry had just finished his keynote speech on artificial intelligence. He turned to leave the stage but stepped into an unprotected edge. He fell nearly six feet onto a concrete floor behind the stage.
Multiple injuries reported
The fall caused severe injuries. Fry broke his leg in more than one place. He also suffered fractures in his hip, pelvis, and ribs. Despite the impact, he avoided damage to his spine and head.
He later shared that he felt lucky to escape even worse harm. The recovery process took time and careful medical support.
Legal action and claims
Fry has now filed a personal injury claim in the High Court. He is seeking up to £100,000 in damages. The case targets CogX Festival Ltd and Blonstein Events Ltd.
His legal team argues that the stage area was unsafe. They claim the space lacked proper lighting and clear safety barriers. According to the filing, these failures led directly to the fall.
Response from organisers
CogX representatives have not shared details due to the ongoing case. They confirmed concern for Fry’s condition and wished him a full recovery.
Blonstein Events Ltd said it has not received official legal documents yet. The company also stated it does not accept responsibility and is ready to defend its position.
What happens next
The claim must be formally delivered to the defendants. After that, the court will review both sides. The final decision will determine who is responsible for the incident.
