The ‘trial of a General’

With a charge sheet against former ISI chief Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hamid for his political participation, the late Senator Mir Hasil Bizenjo stands vindicated today. Hasil claimed on the Senate floor that Faiz, not his fellow senators, had beaten him in the 2018 Senate chairman elections, accusing the former intelligence head of egregious deception. In his farewell statement to the Senate, Hasil had made history by losing the election despite having a landslide majority. “Today, I was defeated by Gen Faiz and not by my fellow senators,” he stated tearfully before he passed away. It is to be hoped that this trial will not be like any other.
