In fiscal year 2024–2025, Pakistan spent a record $8.14 billion on food imports, a $245 million increase over the previous year, resulting in a sharp increase in the country’s food import cost.
According to the most recent data given by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the value of food imports in local currency increased by 3.1% to Rs2,276 billion from $7.90 billion (Rs2,031 billion) in the fiscal year 2023–2024.
Sharp increases in dairy, dried fruits, and spices
According to the report, imports of a number of important food categories have increased significantly. Imports of dairy goods, including as milk, butter, and cream, totaled Rs34.84 billion, a 9% rise over the previous year.
