NEW DELHI: At least six people were murdered in a fire at a private hospital in southern India on Friday, according to police, while over two dozen others were injured.
Due to a paucity of firefighting supplies and a habitual disrespect for safety rules, building fires are frequent in India.
The cause of the fire, which started late Thursday night in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, is still being looked into.
According to the Press Trust of India news agency, the six victims were discovered unconscious in an elevator at the hospital in Dindigul.
According to police superintendent A Pradeep, some thirty persons were hurt, but they were all “stable.”
The ground level lobby room was where the fire began, and it spread quickly
