PESHAWAR: Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif, the adviser to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Information and Public Affairs, has denied reports that the Kurram peace jirga is over, stating that the relevant parties have requested an additional day for more deliberations.
“[….] The Kurram [peace] jirga is still going on. “The reports about the dissolution of the jirga are unfounded,” the spokesperson for the KP government stated on Monday, adding that the parties had requested an additional day to discuss the removal of bunkers and gathering of weapons.
The province government’s response follows reports on Sunday that the nine-day jirga had not produced any results because of disagreements with the government. Jirga member Syed Raza Hussain stated that some items could not be agreed upon.
