After referring to Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah as the “most valuable primate” during the third Test match against Australia, cricket pundit Isa Guha has issued an apology.
When Bumrah gave India a spectacular start with two quick wickets on Sunday, she made the remarks while commentating for Sports in Brisbane.
A social media criticism to her comment pointed out the word’s past as a racist slur.
Guha apologized live on Monday: “I used a term in commentary yesterday that can be construed in a variety of ways… I want to express my regret for any offense I may have caused.
The issue occurred while Guha, a former England cricket player and BBC commentator, was live on television alongside colleagues Brett Lee and Allan Border.
