As a “important partner” who shares the US commitment to upholding the global nonproliferation regime, the United States has stated that it has long denied help to Pakistan’s long-range ballistic missile program.
Hours after Pakistan’s strong retaliation to the State Department’s announcement on December 18 of more sanctions on organizations involved in Pakistan’s ballistic missile development, the US statement was released.
Deputy national security adviser Jon Finer said earlier today that Islamabad’s actions raised “real questions” about its intentions. He said that Pakistan, which has nuclear weapons, is working on long-range ballistic missiles that could eventually enable it to strike targets outside of South Asia, including the United States.
