China and the United States have reached new agreements on trade and artificial intelligence after Chinese President Xi Jinping’s three day visit to Washington. The two sides agreed on tariff treatment covering $30 billion of non sensitive goods in each direction and plans for a new AI dialogue.
The agreement also includes a new trade council and continued work on earlier trade arrangements. The latest steps come as Washington and Beijing seek to manage tensions between the world’s two largest economies.

China and US Reach New Trade Understanding
The United States and China agreed on recommendations for more favorable tariff treatment covering $30 billion of non sensitive goods in each direction. The White House included the agreement in its September 25 fact sheet.
US products covered by the discussions include agricultural goods, seafood, logs, wood products, cosmetics and medical devices. Chinese goods covered by the US side include products such as small appliances, toys and holiday decorations.
New AI Dialogue Between Washington and Beijing
Artificial intelligence also featured prominently in the discussions.
The two countries agreed to create a new dialogue focused on the risks and benefits of advanced AI technology. They also agreed to establish a communication channel for AI related incidents. The next exchange is scheduled for November 2026.

APEC and G20 Cooperation
China and the United States also agreed to support each other’s hosting of major international meetings.
Both countries plan to support the other’s APEC and G20 events. Trump and Xi also intend to attend summits hosted by the other country.
The agreement adds another area of cooperation to the latest US China discussions.
