The US state of California is now the fourth largest economic force in the world, surpassing even Japan in terms of GDP.
California’s growth was highlighted by Governor Gavin Newsom in fresh data released by the US Bureau of Economic Analysis and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
According to the research, California’s GDP surpassed Japan’s, which was $4.01 trillion, in 2024, reaching $4.10 trillion (£3.08 trillion). Now, the state only lags behind China, Germany, and the US overall.
“California isn’t just keeping pace with the world – we’re setting the pace,” Newsom stated.
