On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared his willingness to have a direct meeting with his Russian counterpart in order to put an end to the conflict.
Zelensky told reporters he was prepared for his first in-person meeting with Vladimir Putin since Moscow’s invasion almost three and a half years ago, following meetings with US President Donald Trump and a number of European leaders at the White House.
After the summit, Zelensky declared, “I confirmed — and all European leaders supported me — that we are ready for a bilateral meeting with Putin.”
As Russia achieves a number of gains, Zelensky is facing mounting pressure to give up land in order to put an end to the grueling conflict.
