The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has projected that downpours are expected to strike upper and central portions of Pakistan starting this week, despite the country still being under a heatwave and dry weather.
According to a PMD statement on Monday, thunderstorms and precipitation would cool down the hot weather in Pakistan’s upper and central regions, which include Chitral, Dir, Swat, Diamir, Astore, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Murree, Galliyat, Quetta, and Zhob.
According to the Met Office’s forecast, a shallow westerly wave will cause dust, thunderstorms, and showers across the country’s upper regions between June 4 and June 7.
The following places are included in the announcement as receiving rain after today until June 8: “Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur.”
The press release also highlighted the following areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP): “Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Kohat, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Peshawar, Mardan and Kurram.” Additionally, rain is predicted in these areas between June 4 and June 8.
Rain and thunderstorms are also predicted by the Met office for Islamabad and Punjab’s major towns, which include Toba Tek Singh, Sargodha, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Faisalabad, and Mianwali, between June 4 and June 6.
