The election has been won by Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour Party, and the Conservatives are about to suffer their worst-ever loss in the party’s history.
Following suspense, drama, and numerous unexpected events thus far, these are some of the pivotal moments:
Around five in the morning, when word leaked out that Labour had secured enough seats for a majority, Starmer appeared in front of a London audience to thunderous applause.
As he and his followers celebrated the win, he exclaimed, “We did it!”
“A weight lifted off this magnificent nation’s shoulders at last…
“The dawn of hope, dim at first but becoming brighter by the day. Shining once more upon it.
Hope’s brightness, dim at first but growing brighter as the day goes on. shining once more on a nation that, after 14 years, has a chance to reclaim its future.”
Rishi Sunak was at his count’s in north Yorkshire about twenty minutes ago.
He defended his place, yet his speech was dejected as he accepted defeat.
He informed those present that he had called Starmer to congratulate him and claimed that the British people had rendered a “sobering verdict” on his party.
