Following protests that removed the experienced prime minister, a spokesperson of the “Gen Z” demonstrators stated Thursday that Sushila Karki, the former chief justice of Nepal, is the front-runner to serve as interim leader.
General Ashok Raj Sigdel, the head of the Army, held “consultations with related stakeholders and held a meeting with representatives of Gen Z” on Wednesday, according to a military spokesperson. The statement made reference to the protest movement’s imprecise umbrella moniker without providing any other information.
Following the removal of the prime minister and the burning of the parliament on Tuesday due to the worst unrest in 20 years, the army is working to restore calm in the 30 million-person Himalayan nation.
