Israel tried to assassinate Hamas leadership officials in an attack in Qatar on Tuesday, a move that could jeopardize US-sponsored attempts to mediate a ceasefire in Gaza and put an end to the conflict, which has been going on for almost two years. As an act that could worsen tensions in an already tense region, the bombing was widely denounced in the Middle East and beyond.
In a phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump voiced his frustration over the incident and attempted to reassure the Qataris that similar strikes would not again.
