US Republicans have issued a warning to Americans following the shooting death of right-wing celebrity Charlie Kirk: Show him respect or face the repercussions.
The death of Kirk, a 31-year-old activist and Trump global celebrity renowned for his hard-right beliefs and combative debate style, has been widely denounced by Democratic and Republican leaders in recent days.
A variety of commentators have also emerged, including regular citizens who joke about and occasionally celebrate Kirk’s passing, as well as MPs and pundits who focus on his past of using racist language, only to be singled out in coordinated efforts.
A Reuters tally based on interviews, public comments, and local press reports indicates that at least 15 people have been suspended or sacked from their jobs after talking about the death online.
