Muhammad Abu Dakha, a 31-year-old Palestinian, escaped from Gaza to reach Europe using a jet ski, several thousand euros, creativity, obstacles, and more than a year.
He shared his experience with Reuters after documenting it with audio files, photos, and videos. In addition, Reuters conducted interviews with his family in the Gaza Strip and with him and his traveling companions when they arrived in Italy.
Abu Dakha paid $5,000 to pass the Rafah border crossing into Egypt in April 2024 in order to escape the destruction created by the Israel-led conflict, which has been going on for almost two years and in which Gaza health authorities report that nearly 65,000 Palestinians have been murdered.
