Even if injured captain Pat Cummins does not play in all five of the series’ games, head coach Andrew McDonald is optimistic he will be well enough to play a significant role in the Ashes.
Since Australia’s trip of the West Indies earlier this year, the fast bowler has struggled with a lower back issue, which he is currently rehabilitating from.
“We have time. “You would have to be making important decisions about how it all looks if it happened any closer (to the Ashes),” McDonald said on Australian radio station SEN.
“But we have got time, a lot more information to come, and as I said, we’re really hopeful that he will take a key part in the Ashes.”
