On the fifth day of their historic first test, England overcame Pakistan by an innings and 47 runs after fending off a comeback from the struggling home team on Friday.
After some early resistance, the tourists reduced Pakistan to 220-9 with Abrar Ahmed out of the batting owing to illness, which led to enormous celebrations among a small but noisy number of travelling English fans.
Salman Agha was the first to leave in the morning after a valiant 63, as Pakistan started on a perilous 152-6. Jack Leach’s entrance helped England break his 109-run partnership with Aamer Jamal.
The two overnight batters were struck with bouncers earlier by England’s fast bowlers, and Jamal bounced back after taking a searing blow to the side of his head.
