Russia’s far eastern Kamchatka region was rocked by a powerful earthquake on Friday, according to the regional governor. The area was issued many tsunami warnings, but as of right now, no damage has been reported.
According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake had a magnitude of 7.8 and was 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) deep. It claimed that a string of aftershocks with a maximum magnitude of 5.8 ensued.
The magnitude of the earthquake, according to Russia’s Emergencies Ministry, was 7.2.
No damage has been recorded, but all emergency services have been positioned in a condition of high preparedness, according to Governor Vladimir Solodov. The peninsula’s eastern shore, which protrudes far out into the Pacific Ocean and Bering Sea, was under a tsunami warning.
