The assurance came during a meeting at the PM House in Islamabad on Thursday, attended by MQM-P leaders including Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal, and National Assembly members Dr. Farooq Sattar, Javed Hanif Khan, Syed Aminul Haque, and Khawaja Izharul Hassan.
Senior government officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, federal ministers Khawaja Asif, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Ahad Khan Cheema, Attaullah Tarar, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, and Advisor Rana Sanaullah, also participated in the discussions.
According to MQM-P, PM Shehbaz confirmed that the party’s proposed bill, related to Article 140-A of the Constitution, will be included in the 27th Amendment.
Earlier, on November 3, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari confirmed the ruling party’s plans to introduce the amendment, which includes changes to Article 243, the establishment of Constitutional Courts, and updates to the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award. While PPP has agreed to most changes, it remains cautious about any modifications affecting provincial shares in national resources.
The government has recalled several treasury MNAs and senators from abroad to ensure smooth passage of the amendment. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif also stated that consultations are ongoing regarding amendments to the law governing armed forces under Article 243, emphasizing that the process will be conducted through mutual consultation.
