US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he will actively work to help end the ongoing war in Sudan, following a request from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Speaking at a Saudi investment conference after meeting with the crown prince at the White House, Trump revealed that his administration began addressing the Sudan crisis immediately after the request.
Trump emphasized that the US will collaborate with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and other regional partners to stop the violence and stabilize Sudan. “Tremendous atrocities are taking place in Sudan. It has become the most violent place on Earth,” he said, highlighting the urgent humanitarian needs including food, medical aid, and basic supplies.
The Sudan conflict, which erupted in 2023 due to a power struggle between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, has caused ethnic violence, mass displacement, and widespread destruction. Saudi Arabia views resolving the conflict as vital to its national security, given Sudan’s proximity across the Red Sea.
Trump’s involvement comes after his recent role in achieving a ceasefire in Gaza, which Saudi officials cited as a reason they believe his direct intervention could help break the deadlock in Sudan.
