Russia claimed complete control of the mining town of Selydove on Tuesday, continuing its advance in the eastern Donetsk area.
It also coincides with rumors that many North Korean soldiers have been sent to Russia.
Russia’s deeper resources and larger manpower have contributed to the recent intense strain on Ukraine’s military.
“There are plans to call up more than 160,000 people,” Oleksandr Lytvynenko, the National Security Council secretary for Ukraine, informed parliament on Tuesday.
According to the news agency, the hiring process will go for three months.
The declaration was made as Ukraine continues to commit troops for its August-started assault into Russia’s Kursk region.
According to the Pentagon, over 10,000 North Korean soldiers have been sent to eastern Russia for training.
On Tuesday, the United States announced that a “small number” of North Korean troops had been dispatched to Kursk. It stated that a few thousand more are on their way there.
According to South Korea, the troops are receiving training in a number of places, with several donning Russian uniforms to blend in.
