Elle Fanning recalled a dramatic moment at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival when she fainted due to a wardrobe malfunction. The Sentimental Value star revealed in a recent interview with W Magazine that her dress was simply too tight.
“My dress was too tight,” Fanning explained. She added that her sister Dakota Fanning, who was attending Cannes to promote Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, witnessed the incident from across the room. “My chair just completely fell back. Fanning received quick help from nearby Oscar winner Colin Firth, who rushed to her side.
The 20th Century Women actress admitted that fainting isn’t new to her. “I’m known to faint,” she said, recalling how she would often pass out in school after growing seven inches in a single year. She joked that her body was just adjusting to rapid growth, likening it to altitude sickness.
She first shared the Cannes incident on social media, posting: “Oops, had a fainting spell tonight in my 1950’s Prada prom dress but it’s all good!!” with hashtags #dresstootight and #timeofthemonth.
Despite the mishap, Fanning said she doesn’t regret her fashion choices. “I don’t live with regrets. That’s just not my style,” she added. She also joked about trying clip-on bangs once, which ended up looking like a toupee. “I won’t be doing that again,” she said.
Fanning also recounted another funny fashion slip at the Met Gala. She described tripping in oversized shoes while spotting Cardi B. “Cardi B saw this giant woman just go down. She looked over and asked, ‘Are you okay?’”
