The popular TV detective drama Bergerac is officially returning this spring, and early plot details suggest an intense and emotional second series for fans.
The Jersey set crime series, which first aired in the 1980s, made a strong comeback in 2025. Actor Damien Molony stepped into the role of Jim Bergerac, previously played by John Nettles, and quickly won over viewers.
Around 750,000 people tuned in to watch the reboot’s debut last February, proving that the classic detective still has wide appeal.
A Darker and More Personal Case
Series two will centre on what producers are calling the toughest case of Bergerac’s career. The storyline begins at a wedding, where celebrations turn tragic after the groom is found murdered in his hotel room.
Investigators believe the victim’s final words could be crucial to identifying the killer. This mystery pulls Bergerac into a complex investigation filled with secrets, motives, and unexpected twists.
The new season promises a darker tone than the original show, while keeping the emotional depth that helped the reboot succeed.
Romance Enters Bergerac’s Life
Alongside the murder investigation, the new series also explores Bergerac’s personal life. Privately, the detective feels little hope about finding love.
That changes when he meets Nicola, played by Camilla Beeput. She is a visitor to Jersey, and the two form a genuine connection. Their growing bond adds warmth to the story, even as danger and tension build around Bergerac.
Familiar Faces and New Characters
Several well known characters will return in series two. Zoe Wanamaker reprises her role as Bergerac’s strong willed mother in law. Adrian Edmondson joins the cast as Nigel, her new partner.
Robert Gilbert also returns as Barney Crozier. The supporting cast includes Lesley Sharp, Charles Dale, Turlough Convery, Georgina Rich, and Jonathan Aris, bringing depth and variety to the storyline.
Boost to Jersey Tourism
The reboot has already delivered major benefits beyond television. Visit Jersey reported a sharp rise in interest following the first episode’s release.
According to chief executive Tricia Warwick, website visits jumped by 70 percent compared to the previous month. Hotel bookings and travel plans also increased soon after, showing the show’s strong influence on tourism.
With series two approaching, the island expects renewed attention from viewers and visitors alike.
