The Rawalpindi police arrested the former premier in a fresh case filed at the fresh Town police station just hours after Imran Khan, the imprisoned founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was granted bail in the recent Toshakhana case.
After the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted the PTI founder’s bail request in the Toshakhana 2.0 case on Wednesday, he is no longer wanted in any other matter under the jurisdiction of Islamabad. Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb of the IHC granted Imran’s request for bail against two Rs. 1 million surety bonds.
The former premier was formally “arrested” by a team of Rawalpindi police detectives led by SSP Investigation when they arrived at the Adiala Jail late Wednesday, according to a police spokesperson.
