A Roblox developer has warned that parents need to keep a constant eye on their children while they use the platform, saying current safety tools still fall short.
Roblox remains one of the most popular gaming platforms for children aged eight to 12 in the UK. Millions of young users log in daily to play games and interact with others in a shared virtual space.
Developer urges strict parental supervision
An independent developer, who chose to stay anonymous, shared concerns based on direct experience. He said parents should monitor their children at all times while they are playing. If constant supervision is not possible, he advised against letting them use the platform.
The developer, referred to as Sam, creates content on Roblox and also supports an online safety group. He claimed that the platform’s safety systems do not reflect the reality he has observed.
Exposure to harmful content and risks
Roblox allows users to create their own games and interact freely. While this encourages creativity, it also creates risks. Some critics argue that young users can encounter harmful or violent content.
Sam said he has seen cases where children were approached by strangers and encouraged to move conversations outside the platform. This behavior goes against Roblox rules, but he believes enforcement is not always effective.
He also reported seeing disturbing game themes, including violent scenarios based on real world events. According to him, many complaints submitted through official channels do not always lead to action.
Roblox responds with safety measures
Roblox says user safety is a top priority. The company uses filters, monitoring systems, and age verification tools to protect users. In 2026, it introduced mandatory age checks in the UK to limit interactions between children and adults.
The platform also reviews user behavior and may ask users to verify their age again if activity appears suspicious.
Global concerns and restrictions
Concerns about child safety on Roblox are not new. The platform has faced criticism in several countries. Some governments have taken strict action.
Countries like Russia and Turkey have banned Roblox due to safety concerns. Indonesia has also restricted access for users under 16.
Other countries are still reviewing the platform. In United Kingdom, officials are exploring new rules to improve online safety for children. These may include time limits and usage restrictions.
Parents advised to stay alert
Roblox leadership has previously encouraged parents to trust their judgment. If they feel unsure about the platform, they should limit or avoid allowing their children to use it.
With millions of young players online every day, the debate over safety and supervision continues to grow.
