PS350,000 Donation Sparks Revival Effort
Maggie Lansdown’s generous donation of PS350,000 made it possible to revive Armstrong Hall, Thornbury. The project received the boost it needed from this major contribution. This contribution also encouraged the community to support and volunteer more.
The Venue is Key to Local Culture
Dave Walker-Cornes, a Trustee at the Board of Directors, stressed the significance of the location. The hall, he said, has been a central part of the cultural life in the city for many years.
Many theatre groups have struggled since its closure in 2020. Others have moved on to another town, and others closed down.
The reopening of the building will give the community a new lease on life, he said. The local groups are finally returning to host events and performances and will be able to engage in community activity and activities.
Excitement builds ahead of Reopening
Walker-Cornes expressed his optimism for the future. Walker-Cornes said that it would be great to see the place full once again.
Residents, performers, and artists are all expected to return. Once again, the hall will be a place for connection and creativity.
Main Hall still needs major repairs
Despite the progress made, there is still work to be done. Armstrong Hall needs major repairs.
The space is clearly showing signs of age. In the hall, there are old boxes and furniture. However, this hall will remain closed unless additional funding is available.
Only PS1.2 million is needed for full restoration
The organizers are looking to raise additional funds in order to finish the project.
The first phase’s success has given us hope despite the challenges. Now, the community looks forward to restoring fully this historic site.
