Bang Si-hyuk, the man who made K-pop group BTS famous is in trouble. The police in South Korea want to arrest him because they think he did something with money.
Bang Si-hyuk is the founder of Hybe the company that made BTS stars. The police say he lied to people who gave him money before his company became public. Bang Si-hyuk says he did not do anything and that he followed the law.
So what did Bang Si-hyuk do? The police say that in 2019 Bang Si-hyuk told people that his company Hybe was not going to become public.. At the same time he was getting ready to make Hybe a public company.
Then in 2020 Hybe became a company and Bang Si-hyuk made a lot of money around 136 million dollars. The police have been looking into this for years. They have searched the offices of Hybe taken some of Bang Si-hyuks money and will not let him travel since August.
If Bang Si-hyuk is found guilty he could go to jail for least five years or even for the rest of his life. This is because he made a lot of money from what the police say was a thing.
Even with all these problems Hybe is still doing well. This is because of BTS, the K-pop group that Bang Si-hyuk made famous. BTS just came back from a break. Started a world tour. People think this tour will make than 1 billion dollars.
When BTS announced their tour the value of Hybes stock went up. The company is now worth more than it has been in four years.
Bang Si-hyuk has always said that BTS is an important part of the music world. He said they are like an attraction that people all around the world love.
So who is Bang Si-hyuk? He loved music when he was a kid. He was in a band, in school and wrote songs in college.
In 1997 Bang Si-hyuk started a music company with his friend Park Jin-young. They made music for a K-pop group called g.o.d.
Then in 2005 Bang Si-hyuk left the company. Started Big Hit Entertainment, which is now called Hybe. He made BTS in 2010. At first BTS was a hip-hop group but then they became a full K-pop group. This helped them become famous around the world.
