The top diplomat for the European Union said on Wednesday that New Delhi’s purchases of Russian oil and participation in military exercises with Moscow could impede its efforts to forge deeper ties with India.
With US President Donald Trump upending the world order, the 27-nation bloc is seeking to forge a trade agreement with the most populous country in the world and fortify ties in sectors like defense.
As she presented a new plan from Brussels to strengthen ties, EU foreign policy director Kallas stated, “Ultimately, our partnership is not only about trade, but also about defending the rules-based international order.”
“Participating in military exercises, purchases of oil — all these are obstacles to our cooperation when it comes to deepening the ties,” Kallas stated.
