In honor of Syed Jamal Shah’s lifetime contributions to Pakistani art and culture, France bestowed upon him the title of Chevalier of l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
Diplomats, artists, and cultural leaders came to commemorate the occasion at the French ambassador’s home in Islamabad, where the award ceremony was held.
The Ordre des Arts et des Lettres was created in 1957 by the French Ministry of Culture and is given to people whose contributions to literature and the arts have had a major impact.
Shah traveled from Quetta, Balochistan, which is close to the historic Mehrgarh archaeological site, which was dug up by French scholars, according to French Ambassador Nicolas Galey.
