Former Disney CEO Bob Iger and Josh Kushner, the brother of US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared, are purchasing the majority stake in one of the most recognizable sports clubs in the world. LA Lakers Set for Record $12.5bn Sale to Kushner and Iger In a deal that was unanimously authorized by the NBA Board of Governors in October 2025. Walter purchased his stake from the Buss family for an estimated $10 billion (£7.45 billion), setting a previous record. Kushner and Iger said: “As lifelong NBA fans, we are deeply honored for the opportunity to become stewards of the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the most iconic sports franchises in the world. “We greatly admire the vision and leadership of Jerry and Jeanie Buss. How Mark Walter Became Lakers Owner “Our long-term commitment is to build on that foundation, compete at the highest level, and serve this extraordinary team, its fans, and the city of Los Angeles.” In 1979, Jerry Buss purchased the Lakers for $67.5 million (£50 million), which also included the Los Angeles Kings hockey franchise and the Kia Forum, a Los Angeles arena. Before a contract was finalized with Walter, who also holds a part in the LA Dodgers alongside Todd Boehly, ownership was transferred to his six children in a trust upon his death in 2013. Lakers Have 17 NBA Championships “One of the greatest honors of my life has been owning the Los Angeles Lakers,” Walter remarked. The community, the supporters, and a city that views this team as family are what I will take with me, even if it has been an incredible investment. I appreciate being welcomed into this chapter by Jeanie Buss, the Buss family, the players, and the staff. Los Angeles owns the Lakers, and I’m confident that the greatest is still to come.” The LA Lakers have won 17 NBA titles, one fewer than the Boston Celtics’ record of 18. Kushner’s involvement in the recent scandal surrounding Fifa head Gianni Infantino and an abandoned attempt to sell private investors shares in the governing body’s competitions before the agreement. US Hotels Fear Weak World Cup Tourism as Bookings Fall Short Tourism expectations fail to match reality US hotels are worried the upcoming World Cup will not deliver the expected tourism boost. Many host cities are reporting lower-than-expected bookings, raising doubts about the event’s economic impact. A report from the American Hotel & Lodging Association shows demand is falling behind forecasts across most locations. The group represents more than 32,000 hotel properties and a large share of franchised hotels in the United States. Conflict between booking data and ticket sales The association says hotel demand does not match FIFA’s claim that over five million tickets have already been sold. It warns that the expected financial gains from the tournament could be lower than projected. Accusations over hotel room block bookings The report also criticizes FIFA for reserving large numbers of hotel rooms in advance. According to the association, this created artificial demand and pushed prices higher in early stages of booking. Later, FIFA cancelled a significant portion of those reservations. Hotel operators say this left gaps in availability and disrupted normal pricing patterns. FIFA has rejected these claims and does not agree with the criticism. Other factors behind weak demand Hotels say several issues are discouraging visitors. High ticket prices for matches are one concern. Expensive local transport and taxes are also adding pressure. Some operators also point to political tensions as another reason international travel interest has slowed. Economic outlook remains uncertain With lower bookings and mixed signals from ticket sales, the hospitality sector is now unsure about the World Cup’s overall economic benefit. Many hotels are preparing for weaker-than-expected revenue during the tournament period.

Later on, he became aggressive; according to Panettiere, he would smack her head against the wall and once battered her face so severely that she was unable to leave her home for weeks. In her 36 years, she faced more challenges than most, and she tried to deal with them by writing her book, which was released in May. She concluded by assuring readers that she had learned to "walk hand in hand with my triumphs and my tragedies, because they have made me who I am" and that she had come to terms with her past while maintaining optimism for the future.

Iran Blacklists 45 Strait Tankers

Iran has taken a new step against tanker operators using the Strait of Hormuz. The Persian Gulf Strait Authority said 45 vessels had violated Iranian rules for crossing the waterway.

The authority said the listed ships could face fines, detention and cargo confiscation.

Iran also warned other vessels against conducting ship to ship transfers with the blacklisted tankers. Authorities said those vessels could also face inclusion on the list.

The announcement comes days after the United States threatened Iran with tougher sanctions. Tehran has warned that it would respond strongly to further US pressure.

Current status Iran has published a list of 45 vessels and provided a process for owners seeking removal from the list.
Why it matters The Strait of Hormuz is a major route for global energy shipments, so restrictions could increase risks for shipping and oil markets.

Iran Tanker Blacklist Targets Major Shipping Firms

The Iranian list includes several types of commercial vessels. These include very large crude carriers, liquefied natural gas tankers, liquefied petroleum gas tankers and clean product vessels.

Several listed ships have links to major shipping and energy companies.

The companies connected to vessels on the list include ADNOC Logistics and Shipping, Navig8 Tankers and Saudi Arabia’s Bahri.

Ships linked to Klaveness Ship Management, Stolt Tankers and South Korea’s Sinokor also appear on the list.

Iran did not specify in the announcement which individual rules each vessel had violated.

The authority said shipowners can request removal from the non compliant list. They must submit an explanation and relevant information to Iranian maritime authorities.

Strait of Hormuz Faces Shipping Disruption

The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman. It serves as a major route for oil and gas shipments from the Gulf region.

The current conflict has disrupted tanker traffic in the region. US coordinated efforts have helped some vessels move through the strait and transfer cargo to larger tankers waiting outside the waterway.

The Gulf region supplied about 20 percent of the world’s daily crude oil and liquefied natural gas before the conflict disrupted tanker movements.

How the Blacklist Could Affect Oil Markets

The new blacklist could increase uncertainty for shipping companies operating around the Strait of Hormuz.

Tanker owners may face additional checks, delays or financial risks if Iranian authorities enforce the new measures.

The situation could also affect energy markets. The Strait remains an important route for global oil and gas supplies, so any major disruption could put pressure on international energy prices.

The announcement also adds another point of tension between Iran and the United States at a time when both sides are already taking stronger positions.

What Happens After Iran’s Tanker Blacklist?

Iranian maritime authorities are expected to handle requests from shipowners seeking removal from the list.

The main question is how Iran will enforce the restrictions against the 45 vessels and whether additional ships will join the blacklist.

Shipping companies will also need to monitor Iranian requirements for transit and ship to ship transfers in the Gulf.

Any further restrictions on tanker movements could increase concerns about energy supplies and shipping costs.

The move increases pressure on international shipping at a critical energy route. The impact will depend on how Iran enforces the restrictions and whether more vessels face similar measures.
